Maybelle is about 3 years old. She came to LCHS on 7/15/2025 from a rural shelter. She was at least 20 pounds underweight. Maybelle was immediately seen at Ox Bottom Animal Hospital to get started on a treatment plan. Since then she has reached a healthy weight of about 65 pounds. She is up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and dewormed. Maybelle tested heartworm positive. She is being treated using Advantage Multi slow-kill protocol. Maybelle takes Apoquel off and on for the itchies although her skin and coat look perfectly normal. Keep in mind that she may need to visit the vet for skin allergies in the future and to keep her big ole ears healthy.Maybelle's foster home has 2 senior dogs and 3 cats. She wants to play with the dogs but one is too old and one is not interested although they have recently started wrestling on the floor a bit. Maybelle could really use a dog friend to play with. She does not pay any attention to the cats. She has been around a 7 year old child occasionally with no obvious problems. However, she may be happiest in a home without younger kids that may spook her.Maybelle stays in a crate when not attended and at night. She bellowed loudly her first night in her foster home while in a crate in the living room and broke out of the crate. She was quiet for the rest of the night once her crate was moved into the bedroom with her foster family. Maybelle has returned to sleeping quietly in a crate in the living room. Be prepared with a sturdy crate upon adoption. Maybelle has a few quirks. She is shy and trusts her foster mom more than other people. Foster mom is the one that feeds her. Honestly, she will probably share her love with anyone that serves her meals. She will require patience and time to get use to living with and loving new people. She is easily bribed with treats. Maybelle is shy about getting in a car but rides well. She walks OK on a leash but doesn't have much experience with it. That's her foster mom's fault. Maybelle is happier running around and smelling a large fenced yard than she is being a ''road dog.'' Maybelle requires a fenced yard.Maybelle is a quiet girl. She doesn't even bark when people come to the door. Maybelle only ''talks'' when her people first get home and is super excited for about two minutes. Maybelle has very occasional bathroom accidents in the house. It sometimes takes 10 or more minutes for Maybelle to potty outside because she is very busy with her nose and ears to the ground. If we didn't see her go potty it didn't happen, and she may need to go outside again shortly.Fill out an application to meet Maybelle.
