The Leon County Humane Society has served the people and pets of Tallahassee and the surrounding areas since 1960. In recent years, we’ve seen a growing need for urgent veterinary care among seniors and low-income pet owners who have nowhere else to turn. With this in mind, we have made the decision to launch a Pet Medical Assistance program. This program will help those in our community that are facing a hardship to provide their pet with urgently needed veterinary care.
Through partnerships with local veterinary clinics that offer discounted services, LCHS provides approved pets help with essential medical care and transportation when needed; paying clinics directly so families can focus on their pet’s recovery, not the cost. All animals helped will need to be spayed/neutered, and if not, assistance to aid them with the procedure will be provided in collaboration with Be The Solution, Inc.
So far, we have been able to help over twenty-six animals in the time that we’ve launched this program, from simple spay/neuter surgeries to the removal of cancerous tissue from a beloved dog.
Those experiencing hardship and the need for help can fill out a form on our website, which will be reviewed by staff and the owner will be contacted back regarding what assistance can be provided.
With your continued support, we can expand this effort and help even more pets stay healthy, safe, and with the families that love them.
