So far this year, we’ve helped DOUBLE the number of puppies as we had by this time last year. (Over 50 puppies!!!)
On the one hand, we’re VERY proud of this fact! On the other hand, this is bad news. It means more unwanted puppies are being bred or born, fewer people are spaying and neutering, and we can only do so much. We’re worried about what this means for the rest of puppy season. Our medical bills for JUST puppies this year already totals more than $10,000.
We could slow down and stop saying yes to puppies in need, but the need is there, and we want to help as much as we possibly can. Our Dog Coordinator, Amy, works tirelessly around the clock, answering pleas, helping fosters with their dogs, arranging adoptions, communicating with vets, arranging transports from underfunded shelters to other rescues when we’re out of foster homes, and generally saving lives.
Even though she’s exhausted, she perseveres, so we know the number of puppies we save this year is only going to get higher. As hard as she works, the universe seems to work harder, with more unwanted or in danger litters being born and surrendered to shelters daily.
It’s not ALL bad news though, there are plenty of incredible people who are fostering, donating, volunteering, and adopting! In fact, we have an incredibly generous donor who recently reached out saying they loved the work we do and offered a matching donation of up to $5,000 to support our cause wherever the need was greatest. Your donation will stretch twice as far and be matched by this donor up to $5,000! This means hopefully, after this fundraiser, we’ll have raised $10,000 for our program, almost resetting our vet bills for puppies and allowing us to go on and save more with confidence.
We’re calling it Puppy Philanthropy. Until we reach our goal, we’ll be sharing photos, videos, stories, and happy tails of puppies who we’ve helped save this year. We’ll show you how your donations are used and what a magical difference fostering can make in the life of a puppy in need. You can donate by clicking the button below!
Listed are some approximate common costs incurred for vetting puppies and getting them ready for adoption. Please be advised that these are estimated costs and may be higher or lower depending on the size of the puppy or which of our vet partners they went to.
All of the puppies in our program receive these treatments. Your donation is a general donation toward our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and educate and will be used where the need is greatest.
